in the warmer times, matt and i like to take the film cameras out on excursions-- it's been so cold lately that they've been collecting dust. we decided to do a hooky-day and get out to take some photos. unfortunately, it was so cold that we sort of had to skip the camera adventure. instead we explored some local thrift stores and then ate a bunch of sushi at sumo.
it was a great day.
one of my most favorite past-times is thrift store shopping because you will always find amazing and hilarious things like tiny oil lamps inscribed with cute messages, plush things that want your text, even just the top of a collared shirt because.. you never know when you might need to spiff your life up. you know what i'm saying?
and occasionally, if you get lucky-- you might find some really great vintage housewares and clothing for next to nothing.
i didn't need those rainbow suspenders, but they were 89 cents so, it happened. the 100% wool sweater fit with vintage label was itchy, but - matt told me that i looked like a scandinavian peter pan, which is basically the best compliment i've ever received so it's my new favorite.
if you don't already know, our besties cam and alicia have a baby girl (the cutest in all of the land) named ramona, and they also have a dachshund named beatrice (beezus for short). can you imagine my excitement when i found that retro drawstring bag for 25 cents?! great find. and that apron!? you know what; i feel so much more powerful in the kitchen when i wear an apron. when you put good music on and you wear an apron - the whole process of kitchen-ing becomes much nicer, i think!
the housewares i found were out of this world. matt found a cocktail strainer top, which was great because bar tools can be pricey! (i'm still in the market for a cocktail shaker, so if you know of a good brand please share). the big al mug and the glass beaker were also my favorites-- both for under a buck! what about that juicer? it's pyrex! <3 and i could not pass up the the vintage juice jug because i know it will look fantastic next to nachos during ladies margaritas night this summer. i can't wait. I_CANNOT_WAIT for summer nights.. when will this cold quit?! ;)
seasons; can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em. <3
what are your favorite places for thrifty goods?
