but, wait.. because before facials -- we went out for drinks and dinner and it was the best. if you are ever in upstate, ny - come to ithaca. there are so many great places to eat here. typically serving organic and/or locally sourced food! one of my favorite places for drinks and snacks is bandwagon brewpub. we stopped there to grab a drink in the lounge before we headed up the big hill. we both got the richmond gimlet (local seneca drums gin, mint, lime, + simple syrup, served up). i can't even. it was amazing.
after drink pit-stop, we headed to agava. this place is easily in my top three favorite places to eat of all time. a farm to table approach, and an absolutely awesome ambience. the atmosphere is intimate and rustic - the drinks are amazing, and their wood fired pizza is out of control. ok, ok, so i ordered the richard parker /top right photo/ (broker's gin, cointreau, fresh lemon, orange, and cranberry, house lavender-cardamom elixir). what. i know. danger. chantal went with the charred signature margarita /bottom right photo/ (lunazul reposado tequila, del maguey vida mezcal, fresh lime juice, patron citronge, and a smoked salt rim). every single drink is ridiculous like this... it's just too good.
p.s the first photo is my new favorite thing for get-togethers or really any occasion -- a local, farmstead cheese plate. i just take a piece of brown post paper, ruffle it up, and then grab a couple of blocks or wedges and label them on the paper - couple it with mary's gone crackers and/or another grainy cracker or bread. i get my cheese from the ithaca farm market, keeley's cheese is like heaven on earth, i'm not joking -- it changed my life. i also got a bit of lively run's goat chevre and paired it with with pickled beets i made a few weeks ago (if you're near the east coast, Wegman's has a great organic cheese section, which is where i picked up the organic brie and raw herbed cows milk cheese). + this raw honey.
** the ithaca farmer's market is in their winter spot through the colder months - 11 to 2 on saturdays near the greenstar on route 13. still absolutely wonderful, although much smaller than their summer market; great veggies, great price -- all good things! :)
