confession: i ate enough food this weekend to feed a full-sized elephant.
preface: it's been a truly, truly, remarkable feat that i have adhered to a healthier lifestyle since the first of the year-- admittedly, it's been about weight maintenance (it's not as easy as it used to be!) but mostly, it's centered on natural and realistic eating. i find myself often asking me, "me, where do you think this food came from? how long do you think it traveled to get to you? what about chemicals? did this chicken have room to flap its wings and grass to make its feet feel nice?" and all of those things have, in serious honesty, prevented me from losing my wits whenever i want to be reckless with abandon. you know, like eating bagels for every meal.. it hasn't been easy, but-- i have more self-control regarding the way i eat when i remember that the food i'm eating is about more than just me. "you're helping out the local and small-scale farms. you know who grew this food. eating better makes you feel better. and for petes-sake; somehow it motivates you to use your lunch break to work out." BLLAAAHHHH.
it's true. when i eat healthier it manifests holistically-- i have more energy and mental clarity.
but, then... sometimes... you have a weekend when no meals have been planned, and there's a lot of celebratory noshing happening, and things get a little bit crazy.
so, i needed to scour my favorite food-writers and bloggers tonight to remind myself about how much i love the feeling of taking pride in the food i grow, buy, and create-- ladies and gentlemen, these four are undoubtedly some of my favorites for both food and lifestyle inspiration. enjoy!
1. earthsprout // elenore bendel zahn, from sweden! she is both a gardener and a health coach, and a phenomenal food photographer. she has a myriad of healthy, beautiful recipes, and a gorgeous instagram feed. elenore has also created the 30 raw breakfast app -- i am so in love with all of the creative recipes she's put together there! elenore's golden detox drink is pictured above. i used to drink a giant glass of water with lemon and cayenne before my work out in the morning. it made me feel like i had super powers. somehow i fell out of the habit-- i think i'll give it a go again, but this time using elenore's elixir.
2. cherry lau of studio-snacks. "plant based comestibles from a grain-, sugar-, and dairy-free pantry." honestly - she is a genius. her food is creative and diverse. she has paleo, whole 30, vegan and vegetarian options -- making particular recipes easy to navigate. follow her here! i am thinking of trying my hand at her ganache recipe for valentine's day!
3. listen, this blog is magical. a little bit of everything lovely. the fresh exchange, created by megan & mike gilger. they write a bit about lifestyle, travel, business, fashion, and wellness, to name a few-- you just have to hop over there and see all the delicious, happy, great they've got going on. the other day i found a collaborative piece (pictured above) that they did with megan gardner of passports and pancakes, it's a super simple dessert that i think i might need to try immediately. [megan gardner's blog is stunning as well; specializing in food, travel, and photography-- a girl after my own heart! you can follow her on instagram here.] oh! and check out fresh exchange on instagram here!
4. sara forte of the sprouted kitchen - because this curry soup, are you kidding?! this is such a wonderful recipe. but in all actuality, all of the recipes i've made from sara's blog or cookbook are. her food styling and photography are a great inspiration-- but the simplicity and creativity of her recipes speaks through the final product-- always delicious! i recently realized that sara's husband, hugh, is a wonderfully gifted photographer - i love his work! i also loved this q&a with sara that anna watson carl of the yellow table did a while back. // and actually, while you're there-- check out anna, too! she has a beautiful variety of vittles-- i can't wait to try this combo of hers! <3
there you have it! some of my all time favorites-- happy sunday :)
